Tulsa Sheffield United was formed in 1984 as one of the original clubs to make up the Premier Club in the Green Country Soccer Association of Eastern Oklahoma. Initially, Sheffield club consisted of four (4) boys’ teams and one (1) girl’s team. The Under 19 boys and Under 16 girls teams were both coached by Vic Hughes. One of the other coaches was Alan Woodward, who had played for the English Professional team of Sheffield United, so we gave our club the same name in honor of Alan. Alan also played for the Tulsa Roughnecks of the NASL. The four teams travelled to England in 1985 to play in two tournaments. The girls team got 2nd Place in the London Pan Am Tournament, and also won their first State Championship that same year. This original girls' team eventually won three State titles along with several league titles and tournament Championships. Due to the great success with the girls' program we decided to concentrate on the girls soccer program and became the first club in the region to do so. From 1988 to1999, Sheffield had been an all girls’ club. However, in 2000 we added an U13 boys' team. Our whole objective is the development of players to prepare them for college and their future in society. Our club’s success has come in the form of numerous State Championships, Regional Titles, League Champions, and Tournament Champions.
More importantly, are the academic successes that our players have achieved and continue to maintain. Sheffield players have been awarded more than three million dollars ($3,000,000) in soccer scholarships to play collegiate at NCAA Division 1 through NAIA colleges.
We are one of the few clubs in the area with a private facility. The club supports its young players who have the desire to play the game to a further level.
The Sheffield coaching staff is composed of a blend of experienced coaches with both English and American background. They have been selected by our coaching committee based on their knowledge of the game, ability to communicate, and their willingness to dedicate their time.
